A sploof can be a crucial tool when you need to hide the smell of your smoke. With a little stoner engineering, many different versions of sploofs have come into existence. Some you can buy at a local smoke shop and others you can make at home with everyday items. In the following post I will go over how to make a sploof and for those of you who aren’t stoner engineers, where you can buy one already made.
PVC sploofs are the best sploof you can make. They won’t break from getting wet, it’s easy to take apart to clean and refill, and they allow you to get creative with using different pipes. To make a PVC sploof you’re going to need 2 threaded pipes, a pipe cap, pipe connector, 2 filters or screens, and activated carbon. Simply connect it all together putting the activated charcoal between the filters which are held in place by the cap and pipe connector.
Laundry Detergent Sploof
Using laundry detergent as a sploof was definitely invented by a stoner engineer. Almost everyone has a bottle of soap and a straw laying around. All you have to do is make two holes in the cap. One hole for the straw to exhale into and one hole for the filtered air to come out of.
This sploof isn’t as effective as one with activated carbon, but it is useful in a pinch. A better variation of this sploof would be to use a jar of Ona Gel instead. Ona Gel was designed to absorb and neutralize odors far better than laundry soap; it’s so good, even growers use it.
The Classic Sploof
When people first think of a sploof, the classic sploof is probably what comes to mind. An empty paper towel roll stuffed with dryer sheets and held together with a rubber band. Simple and easy to make, yet not very effective.
If you find yourself using a classic sploof try filling it with an with activated carbon, baking soda, or kitty litter in addition to the dryer sheets. Just make sure it’s held together tight or you may end up with a big mess on your hands.
#1: Smoke Trap
SmokeTrap is my favorite sploof. When compared to the classic sploofs that some people use, it’s a no brainer. It uses 3 stage carbon HEPA replaceable cartridge that has a 99.97% efficiency rate. When the cartridge is used used up after 300 uses, instead of buying a complete new unit, you only have to pay $13.95 for a new 2.0 filter. The new replacement cartridge has an increased surface area and upgraded HEPA media to increase filter life and maximize airflow. This new filter will eliminate the thickest clouds and the strongest smell & you won’t have to be forcefully exhaling to do it.
You can buy a Smoke Trap Don’t forget to pick up a spare filter so you don’t have to pay the extra cost of shipping in a couple months.
Snubbz is a “smoke silencer” that includes a cherry topper to help snuff out your bowls. You can use it 150 – 200 times before you have to throw it away. It utilizes a HEPA filter that filters out 99.7% of particles and activated carbon from coconut shells. After the air is filtered it exits through tiny vent holes in the bottom of the pouch.
The snubbz cap has a sweet bowl snuffer they call the Cherry Topper. It has a heat resistant silicon pad that withstands temperatures up to 450 degrees fahrenheit. Designed to put out your burning bowl and seal in smoke, preventing odor from escaping into the air. You can buy a Snubbz on Amazon for $12.95.
The Smokebuddy is the most well known sploof. It’s been around since 2008 and has since become known as the industry standard. The Smokebuddy comes in three sizes, uses activated carbon for odor neutralization, and includes covers to put over the ends while traveling. After about 300 uses the activated carbon will be used up and you have to throw the whole thing away thus not being as eco-friendly as they claim. It’s also hard to clean and made out of a cheaper plastic. You can buy a Smokebuddy on Amazon for $8-$30 depending on size.
Do Sploofs Work?
As you may have guessed by now, not all sploofs work well and no sploof is 100% effective. The best sploof is probably Sploofy, which is 99.97% effective. But the longer you use it the less effective it becomes. Also, when you use a sploof, not all the smoke is being exhaled through it. Smoke escapes every time you light your bowl and when your mouth isn’t tight around the sploof. To use your sploof most effectively we’ve put together a list of rules you should follow to maximize the chance of not getting caught while smoking.
Rules To Follow
- Snuff Out Your Bowl While You’re Inhaling
- Use An Odor Neutralizer, Not A Cover Up Scent
- Get Fresh Air Moving In, Stale Air Moving Out
- Smoke In The Room Furthest From The Front Door
- Use a Vaporizer. They Produce Vapor. That’s A Lot Easier To Neutralize Than Smoke.
