If you’ve been a marijuana enthusiast, you’ve probably had hash a time or two; and if you’re new to marijuana and are looking for a potent treat to help out with those aches and pains, hash is probably the way to go.
Hash, AKA hashish, is basically the trichomes of a marijuana plant that has been formed into a cake or brick of pure crystals. Trichomes, those little white crystals on a bud, are the most potent parts of a marijuana plant, and they are found on leaves and stems, parts of the plant that are not normally smoked. That makes hash a great resource for growers, since they can utilize all pieces of a plant.
The quickest way to make hash is through the blender method. You’ll need:
- Blender
- Marijuana trimmings
- Paper coffee filter
- Two glass jars
- Ice
- Cold water
1) Take the trimmings from your plant and put them in the blender until it is half-way full (if you have that much). Put in cold water and a bunch of ice cubes, so that the blender is about 2/3-3/4 full.
2) Use the blender. Power it in for a good 50-60 seconds. When blended right, the concoction should be green and resemble a smoothie.
3) Pour the concoction into a glass jar and let it sit for a minimum of 30 minutes. The trichomes will “settle” in the water and separate from the water.
4) Get the paper coffee filters and set it up over a bowl or cup (or the other jaw). Pour the concoction through the paper filter so that the trichomes and water separate. This is where it gets a little messy, so have patience.
Many people like to “press” their hash into bricks to make it easier to smoke later. You can pour step 4 into a cookie sheet and then flatten it out so that you get smooth bricks, and then break it apart later, or whatever floats your boat! Enjoy!
Note: Hash is also great to cook with, if you break it up and sprinkle it into a recipe so you can avoid that “weedy” texture that sometimes happens with marijuana edibles.
